Serranochromis robustus is a cichlid which mainly can be found in shallow intermediate zones from rocks to sand all around the lake however they can also be found above sandbottoms with enough vegetation and sometimes also in rocky habitats. This species is also living in rivers which flow into Lak Malawi. In the lake this species can grow to 45-50 cm. When they would be take care of in an aquarium there´s a possibility they can even become taller because of a good feeding. You can best keep this species with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space, some hiding places and enough vegetation. These are inhabitants you can only keep together with other large species, small species and young fish will be hunted and eaten by this predator. In the lake they are mainly feeding themselves with mbunas and other cichlids which they catch in the sandy environment. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix, however they regularly need to be offered some small young fish.
